Born Ins vs Converts
by Red Piller infirst of all, let me say that i do think this excuse of a religion is on a downward spiral, which will only accelerate.. as a born in, i always read comments here about how dedicated and hard-line we are.
most of the born ins (who stayed) develop a casual attitude toward everything.
even if you believe it, hearing about armageddon, constantly, doesn't excite you as much when it's the 1,000th time you've heard it.

Sharpie and LITS - I also think that our view of other religions has been through a distorted lens.I am open mined to any faith at this point. I still believe in God.
Gayle - so true. I'm just finind out now who I am, what I really like or dislike. I've suppressed so many desires/ambitions/questioned so many of my own thoughts - up to this point. I feel like I am finally thinking clearly.
FF - good point. It must be a shock to be so scrutinized as a convert. For a born in, it becomes the background noise of your life.
Cofty - I think converts in the past may have had a real life and careers. The current crop is mainly losers. So, they get a chance to feel important and embrace it and do whatever it takes to move up the ranks. Failures in real life now can give talks and feel important during secret elders meetings. Anyways, that the trend I see in my many years in the "truth."
Satinka - won't that be great, if it's true!

Introduction
by dontplaceliterature inbefore i begin my introductory post, i would like to mention that a number of my initial comments here may be viewed by several of you as watchtower apologist or as sympathetic to the views of the jehovahs witnesses.
the last thing i want to do is incite a flame war regarding my legitimacy or intentions in joining this forum.
mostly, i would describe myself as on the fence.

Welcome. Fairly new here myself. I know what you mean about being curious and looking into things fully. That's what brought me here, and seeing the mis-application of quotes was the kicker for me too.
As an active witness, I also think that label like "r&f" are too broad of a brush stroke. However, what is great abiout this forum, and not the congregation, is that if you don't like something or disagree - you can state your case. Try doing that at the hall...right?
You are younger so you haven't had the chance maybe - but I have made some deep personal connections with worldly folks (in secret and before I was conscious.) It really caused some dissonance since they are supposed to be wicked and they are people I've known for years who care about me and love me unconditionally.
As a born in, I too have some great friendships - I can't give those up yet too. But someday a point of not turning back will be reached. I hope my problem is solved for me when this recently rumored WT collapse finally occurs.

First of all, let me say that I do think this excuse of a religion is on a downward spiral, which will only accelerate.
As a born in, I always read comments here about how dedicated and hard-line we are. I'm not so sure of that. Most of the born ins (who stayed) develop a casual attitude toward everything. Even if you believe it, hearing about Armageddon, constantly, doesn't excite you as much when it's the 1,000th time you've heard it.
Definitely, there has been some damage done to my brain and self esteem from all these years of indoctrination. But as far as this subject, I always found the converts to be the most annoying and judegemental. They come in guns blazing. Don't do this, don't do that. This is wrong music......Someone who started attending meetings at age 35 - looking down on me if I skip one. Buddy, when you were 18 and partying or in a dorm, I was here, stuck for a Sunday afternoon. Give me a break...
I think the converts wil be the one who turn out the lights. The born-ins who have given so much of their time, their youth and its potential and who have practiced the most self-denial, will be the ones heading for the exit, first.

An Ode to the 2 Apostates Who Tried
by Red Piller inmany years ago 2 guys visited our kh on meeting night.they were from some "anti-cult" group.
can't remember the name exactly.
everyone ignored them after talking with them for more than 2 seconds and realizing their purpose.. not me, i really wanted to debate them.

Thanks Santinka. This forum has been a lifesaver, definitely. To see all the mind-control deconstructed has helped a lot.
I'm at a point where doing something dramatic will really upset the social order for me, my wife and kids. Plus all my extended family. So, I'm taking some subtle measures which hopefully will lead us all out in the near future.
Happy New Year, OTWO. Yep, I agree. Now I can see why the WT doesn't even want you glance at anything. I think my conversation with them made an impression on me. Years later I realized it.....

Not me, I really wanted to debate them. We went back and forth on a few things. I could tell in their eyes that they thought I had potential. (Inside, I laughed since I knew they were never going to convince me.)
They even came back the next meeting to talk to me some more. They gave up after that. Almost impossible, to convince a faithful witness with a visit or 2. The internet is doing that job really well now with a slow and steady drip-drip of information.
Just wanted to say fellas, that you were right all along. I give you a lot of credit for stepping into the enemy's lair (twice.) I am not out yet. But mentally I am free. And that is a start.

February 2011 KM - no more daily text before service
by Red Piller inheard this today from a good source.
my guess everybody is delaying leaving the service meeting - and this is an attempt to fix this.. that's what i see in our service groups - no one is in any rush to go out (again).

This is now official. From the Feb KM:
In the past, meetings for field service
might have included a brief discussion of
the daily text if it related to the ministry.
This is being adjusted. Examining the Scriptures
Daily should no longer be used as a basis
for discussion during meetings for service -

WTBTS Elder & Ministerial Servant Problems
by JW GoneBad ini attended a recent ministerial servant k m school on the east coast and the main school instructor mentioned among other things (part entitled: 'objective of the km school course') that the total number of ministerial servants is seriously less than it should be.
in times past the ratio of m ss to elders was much more than it is today.. in the u.s. apparently the total number of elders is 88,500+ as opposed to m ss 65,000. the numbers show & numbers don't lie: the society is running out of spiritual men.
the instructor stated that this is a new downward trend that has (in so many words) the society worried.. the next speaker (part entitled: 'why we must be spiritual men') added that in his years as a traveling servant the pool of m ss has always been much, much larger than it is today.

Great thread. I am an MS. I do just enough not to be removed (family reasons) but hopefully not enough to be appointed elder.
I met the MS's from my old hall at the one-day KM School. Not one person under 60. They are dumb and uneducated and I hate to say it practically useless. My old hall used to have plenty of 20-40's MS's. Not anymore.

Begging for money at Bethel
by life is to short inthe thread about the circuit assembly accounts and where the money goes reminded me of one time when we were at bethel.. we were at bethel between 1991 to 1994, there had been some problem in another country and at morning worship they asked all of us bethelites to put in at least one dollar a person to send to the brothers in this problem country.. at the time my husband and i just did not have it.
we only got $90 a person so $180 a couple.
ok i know we had a free place to live but we still had to pay for car gas to the hall our car insurance, air conditioning, shampoo, clothes, etc.

LITS, you have the most incredible and heartbreaking stories. I always suspected that Bethel would be something I couldn't handle.......So glad I never went.
